The Itinerary The Prologue ...
Departing from Seattle Washington on Saturday June 12, we embark on the adventure! Team Logos Vans will transport us down Interstate 5 through scenic southern Washington, through the emerald state of Oregon, and then via the central valley of California to our first nights lodging and the beautiful town of Ferndale, California.

Ferndale offers a glimpse of the past - from the quaint shops on Main Street to the elegance of the Victorian Inn, you will delight in all the town has to offer.

The old-fashioned mercantile, antique stores, art galleries, and specialty shops, all add horse carriage to the charm of our first afternoon and evening. Listen to the clip clop of a horse-drawn carriage, hear the ringing of the blacksmith's hammer, and talk with the friendly people. Watch fresh candy being dipped by hand to whet your appetite for a fine dinner and our first evening of study in the book of Joshua with Ch. 1, "Be Strong & Courageous, For I Am With You".

Built more than a century ago in 1854 by the city founder for his bride, the Shaw House Inn is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and modeled after Hawthorn's famous house of seven gables. FAQs What About ...
I'm not in shape. Do you still recommend I take a Team Logos Bicycle Tour?

Absolutely! How far you ride and how fast you ride is your choice. The Team Logos support vans are always available to rack your bike and transport you to down the road to a shorter stage or all the way to your luxury Bed & Breakfast for the day. In preparing for your Team Logos Tour, be sure to ride as much as you can in order to be sure that you are comfortable on a bike. Prior to the start of the tour, it is best to be able to ride comfortably for 35-40 miles or more a day. For the 2004 Bike & Bible Wine Country tour (which has some challenging climbs), be sure train on and ride hills in the weeks prior to the tour to get your legs ready. Always break in new equipment prior to the tour.

Equipment?

Any style of bike will do, but a lighter road or touring bike will perform best with less effort on pavement and since your tour will never be off-road, you won't require a heavier mountain bike. If you do not have a bike, Team Logos Bicycle Tours can provide a bike for a rental fee. Be sure to have your bike inspected and well tuned by a professional bike store prior to joining the tour and bring a well equipped repair/tool kit, spare tubes and a patch kit.

Clothing?

On your tour you will experience not only a variety of terrain but also a variety of climate conditions. The coast can be cool and misting, the redwoods moderate and comfortable and the wine country, hot. So it's important to prepare for, and pack a variety of riding apparel suited to varied conditions and temperatures. Plan for everything from cool and rain to dry and hot.

My spouse doesn't bike. Can he/she still come along?

Certainly. The spouse could take a space on the tour and simply ride in the van or relax at the inns during biking. They of course will stay with us at our Bed & Breakfast inns, and can enjoy any of the other "off the bike" activities, (horse back riding, hot air balloons etc.). There is no discount for this option, though.

Can people come just for the luxury vacation, stunning landscapes and a great Bible retreat?

Yes! If you're less interested in the bicycling, leave the bike at home. You can attend the entire tour, ride in the support vehicle to the next Bed & Breakfast and simply enjoy an outstanding luxury vacation, the stunning views and study the Old Testament book of Joshua! You can also enjoy the other "off the bike" activities, (horse back riding, hot air balloons etc.). There is no discount for this option, though.

What happens in bad weather? Do we still ride in the rain?

As part of a Team Logos Bicycle Tour, we try to schedule our tours to optimize the region's best weather. But just like the weather man, we can never be sure as to the conditions so we can't guarantee perfect weather all the time. Part of the fun of the 2004 Team Logos Bike & Bible Tour is found in the cool coast climate, the hot wine country and the moderate redwoods. Barring a thunderstorm or major downpour, and as long as road conditions are safe, Team Logos Bicycle Tours does still ride our planned daily stages. Keep in mind that if cycling in the rain is not "your thing," you can always elect to sleep late, take the support van and relax at the next lodge.

How about food?

While breakfast is provided at each of our luxury Bed & Breakfast Inns, lunch and dinner is not included in your tour price and is the responsibility of tour participants. This allows for each individual to enjoy their favorite foods each day while providing a substantial savings with regard to food costs.
Tour Tips It's a good Idea to think about...
Pre-tour training

In winter months, when it's rainy and colder, you need to stay active with a variety of cardiovascular and strength training activities. Every bit of pre-tour training will make your Team Logos Bicycle Tour all the more enjoyable. So be sure to visit the gym and work on lower body muscle groups with a variety of activities. Running/walking on the treadmill, time on a stair-climbing machine, or a stationary bicycle, all will improve your cardio fitness levels and serve you well during the tour. Just getting out and walking several days a week, (especially up hills) will be great too. Flexibility is important too, so don't forget to stretch daily. And remember, prior to starting an exercise program, always consult your physician.

In preparing for your Team Logos Tour, be sure to ride as much as you can in order to be sure that you are comfortable on a bike. Prior to the start of the tour, it is best to be able to ride comfortably for 35-40 miles or more a day. For the 2004 Bike & Bible Wine Country Tour (which has some challenging climbs), be sure to train on, and ride hills in the weeks and months prior to the tour to get your legs ready. Always break in new equipment prior to the tour.

The coast can be cool and misting, the redwoods moderate and comfortable and the wine country, hot. So it's important to prepare for, and pack a variety of riding apparel suited to varied conditions and temperatures. Plan for everything from cool and rain to dry and hot. Bring along simple riding shorts and a short sleeve jersey. But also include in your gear a long sleeve jersey or two, full length cycling pants and a good wind slipping jacket to dress with layers, are all a good idea. A helmet, and eye protection are both required pieces of equipment for your tour and a pair of riding gloves is also recommended.

Of course, keep in mind that on any given day you'll have most of the afternoon and the evening to relax and enjoy your view of the ocean, the redwoods or the wine country. So be sure to pack clothing for your off-bike relaxation time! And once we arrive in San Francisco, plan for a dressier evening out on the town for some dinner and dancing if you have a mind to. Fun, fun, fun!

Nutrition for the Ride

While breakfast is provided at each of our luxury Bed & Breakfast Inns, lunch and dinner is not included in your tour price and is the responsibility of tour participants. This allows for each individual to enjoy their favorite foods each day while providing a substantial savings with regard to food costs.

Put some thought into bringing small portions of energy foods to carry along on the bike and/or store on the support vans as you ride during the day. For long duration or high intensity exercise, foods rich in carbohydrates are highly recommended. Fresh fruit or dried fruit as well as a variety of whole grains will help maintain much needed Glycogen storage during your ride. Include a variety of Nutrient Dense Foods, (foods that are rich in nutrients such as vitamins and minerals as well as calories) and avoid sodas or other diuretics, as they will encourage dehydration. Of course your most important nutrient is water! Make sure your bike is equipped with a water bottle cage or bring along a backpack hydration system to keep you well hydrated.
